La Tribune Corsair International, the French holiday airline for sale, TUI Group, the world's largest leisure, travel and tourism firm, has appointed a potential buyer to Rothschild investment bank. Back in 2015, the airline was still for sale. With a fleet of seven aircraft per year, Corsair hires 1,200 people and transports 1.2 million passengers: three Boeing 747s and four Airbus A330s. The Boeing 747-400, with a seating capacity of more than 500 passengers, remains extremely productive on ASK due to the low fuel prices, but the airline faces fierce competition from new low-cost long-haul airlines, French Blue and Norwegian.
Despite the rivalry, with flights from Paris Orly to a range of long-haul destinations across Africa, the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean, Corsair remains a strong brand in overseas territories. EasyJet recently signed four additional partner airlines, including Corsair, to its delivery program 'Worldwide through easyJet.'
Decisions must be taken to renew the older Boeing 747-400 aircraft in the next two years, as the jumbo aircraft will leave the fleet by 2020-2021. It seems that the TUI group is not committed to new and substantial investments in the French airline.
